Pool Opening & Closing in East Hampton, NY

A pool opening or closing in East Hampton starts at about $425 with a Hamptons service company (2026 Long Island price; national ranges $250–500 to open, $175–500 to close). Open once daytime air holds above 70°F, before algae starts, and close after several nights below 50°F, usually mid-to-late October. We put East Hampton pool owners in touch with one licensed, insured pool company that works the town and will schedule the opening around the first weekend the house is used.

A pool opening or closing in East Hampton is a two-hour job that decides a whole season. We put East Hampton pool owners in touch with one licensed, insured pool company that works the town every spring and fall, and we publish the 2026 Long Island prices so the quote reads plainly.

Opening & closing in East Hampton: what's different here

Shingle-style village houses with pools tucked behind hedges, oceanfront estates south of the highway with 20×40 gunite pools, spas and pool houses, and mid-century and new-build houses in Springs and Northwest Woods with older vinyl and gunite pools on their second finish.

East Hampton runs from open, salt-exposed ground near the water to wooded inland lots, and the jobs differ: cover and equipment protection near the water, leaf load and early algae under the trees. Either way the timing rule is the same, open above 70°F air and close below 50°F nights, and a company that works both sides of East Hampton knows which weekend that tends to be.

No structure, pools included, within 150 feet of a wetland in the Town, and a Natural Resources Special Permit cannot override the yard setbacks; around Georgica Pond the Town Trustees have jurisdiction as well. A Town pool house is capped at 200 square feet plus 400 square feet of open porch, one per lot, and is the only accessory building allowed plumbing besides an approved accessory dwelling.

Permits in East Hampton run through the Village of East Hampton Building Department inside the village; Town of East Hampton Building Department for Springs, Northwest Woods and the rest of the town; the pool specialist we put you in touch with handles the filing where one is required.

FAQ

Opening & closing questions

How much does pool opening cost in the Hamptons?

About $425 and up. One Hamptons service company that works East Hampton, Southampton, Water Mill, Bridgehampton and Sagaponack publishes openings and closings "starting at $425" for 2026, which buys cover removal, deck equipment reinstalled, filtration start-up, an interior clean, the fill, start-up chemicals and an equipment check. National ranges run $250–500 for an in-ground opening, with gunite pools at the top ($300–500) because there is more surface to clean and a DE filter reinstall ($300–450) costing more than a cartridge or sand one ($250–350). Closings nationally are $175–500 depending on the source. A large gunite pool with a spa, automation and a salt system will run above the starting price; a DIY opening is $50–150 in chemicals and supplies plus a Saturday.

When should I open my pool in the Hamptons?

Earlier than the calendar says: when daytime air is consistently above 70°F, or overnight lows are holding at 60–65°F, and not later. The water will be far too cold to swim, and that is the point: algae is active, not dormant, at 70°F, and a pool that sits under a cover into May with warming water and no circulation opens green. On Long Island most residential pools open between mid-March and early May depending on the year. Closing works in reverse: watch for nighttime lows consistently below 50°F for several nights, which on Long Island usually arrives mid-to-late October (national sources disagree on the threshold, quoting 65°F, 60°F or 50°F water). Open-to-close is a five-to-seven-month season; the serviced part of it is usually about 20 weeks.

How does Georgica Pool Co. work, and what does it cost me?

It costs homeowners nothing. You tell us about the pool once, roughly sixty seconds: where it is, what kind it is if you know, what it needs, and when. We put you in touch with one licensed, insured pool company that works your town and does that kind of work, service company or builder as the job requires, and they call you within one business day to look at it and quote it directly. We are a Hamptons-only referral service, not a pool company, and we are named for the pond, not connected to any business or property that shares the name: one company, and nobody else gets your number. Participating companies pay us a referral fee.
